What Is ABA Therapy?

“Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree, and to demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behavior.”
– Baer, Wolf, & Risley, 1968

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst will meet with you and your child to complete required assessments and formulate goals and objectives specific to your child’s and/or family’s individual needs.

  • Family are involved as partners in the process.

  • Our tutors use strategies based on Applied Behavior Analysis

  • Goals emphasize skills that will enable your child to become independent and successful in both the short and long terms.
  • Not a “one size fits all” approach

  • Customized to your child’s skills, needs, interests, preferences, and family situations.

  • The child’s day is structured to provide many opportunities ‒ both planned and naturally occurring ‒ to acquire and practice skills in both structured and unstructured situations.
  • The intervention involves ongoing objective measurement of the child’s progress.
  • The instruction plan breaks down desired skills into manageable steps to be taught from the simplest (e.g. imitating single sounds) to the more complex (e.g. carrying on a conversation).

  • The behavior analyst frequently reviews information on the child’s progress and uses this to adjust procedures and goals as needed.

  • The behavior analyst meets regularly with family members and program staff to plan ahead, review progress and make adjustments as needed.

  • Some learners acquire skills quickly. Typically, much more instruction and practice is needed to master skill areas. This is why it is very important for children to participate at a frequency that will benefit them. Initial and ongoing testing will determine what that frequency should be.
